In Australia G4S operates Port Phillip Prison on behalf of the Department of Justice Victoria. The 820-bed maximum security men’s prison is located at Laverton, Melbourne (Victoria). The function of G4S is to manage the prison 24/7 and deliver a range of services, programs and activities in an environment that encourages positive behaviour and attitudes leading to self-directed rehabilitation.
Role Responsibility:
An exciting opportunity now exists for an experienced Prison Director/General Manager. This role is responsible for managing the maximum security establishment in a contemporary manner and for planning, organising, leading and managing the day-to-day operations of Port Phillip Prison (“PPP”).
The Ideal Candidate:
The successful candidate will ideally have the following skills:
- Be an engaging leader that seeks to build strong relationships with all Stakeholders
- Extensive previous experience in a correctional environment;
- A forward thinking, innovative and strategic mind set with a demonstrable record of change management
- Sustained success in a senior modern correctional management role;
- Thorough working knowledge of legislation and regulations relating to corrections, occupational health and safety, human rights and equal employment;
- Extensive knowledge of all aspects of prison operations, including the management of complex and diverse prisoner profiles;
- Thorough understanding of emergency management protocols;
- Demonstrated experience in managing large budgets;
- An excellent combination of ‘business sense’ and ‘people skills’;
- Thorough understanding of the principles of human resource management; and
- Risk management.
